Chapter 5

As I sat at the table, I thought about my past life.

Back then, during the days she locked me up, I had eaten the same meals. I thought she was trying to punish me with food I hated.

But I understood now. She suspected I was being poisoned, so she couldn't risk letting me eat anything else.

The wall I had built against her began to crack.

Late that night, I went to the last room on the second floor anyway.

The door wasn't locked.
