Daniel looked at me with open disgust.

He stomped down on my fingers.

"You still need these fingers?" he sneered. "All you do is wave them around in front of Charlotte. We already told you to quit piano. Why are you still chasing it?"

My clearest memory of Mom was her holding my hands, placing my fingers on the piano keys. One note at a time.

She kissed my forehead and whispered, "My Victoria is going to be the greatest pianist."
