Chapter 5
"What?!" Mike was so surprised that the veins in his neck stood out.
"Did you tell Charlotte? She's got money and resources. She'd blow her entire fortune to save you. You won't die," he said.
Nathan shook his head. "No need. I'm not going to tell her."
Mike shot back, "She's the one who loves you most in this whole world! How can you hide this from her?"
While Nathan was still silent, Charlotte walked back in.
Nathan was caught off guard, but he quickly shot Mike a firm look. His eyes clearly said, "Don't tell her."
Charlotte walked over and handed each of Nathan's buddies a Vacheron Constantin watch. The guys' eyes nearly popped out of their heads.
If it weren't for Nathan, they'd never get their hands on a luxury watch like that in their whole lives.
For a moment, they were all gushing over Charlotte.
Charlotte, meanwhile, was openly showing her affection for Nathan. She kept serving him food, gently wiping his mouth, and her eyes never left him.
The guys groaned, "Man, you two are really making us choke on all this PDA!"
Mike shot Nathan a look, like he couldn't believe Nathan was hiding his cancer from Charlotte.
Nathan couldn't swallow a single bite. He just sat there in silence, watching Charlotte fuss over him.
After a while, another unexpected guest showed up.
Blake swaggered into Charlotte and Nathan's villa, dressed to impress.
He was the definition of a pretty boy, immediately falling over himself to fuss over Charlotte. He ignored Nathan completely.
Nathan's buddies weren't happy about this guy. Their cold stares said it all.
Charlotte looked a little flustered and blurted out, "You're just my assistant. What are you doing at my house?"
She practically threw the word "assistant" in his face, as if making it crystal clear there was nothing between them.
Blake gave her a wounded look. "Ms. Sinclair, you left your daily supplements at the office. I brought them over."
He held out a bottle covered in foreign writing.
Charlotte glanced at the bottle, kept quiet, and simply took it from him.
But Nathan recognized it right away. It was folic acid, the stuff every soon-to-be-mom pops.
Back when he'd been full of hope about having a baby with Charlotte, he'd done his homework. He knew folic acid was a must for women trying to get pregnant.
He'd even seen that exact brand before and bought it himself.
But before he could bring it up with Charlotte, she'd made it crystal clear: she wasn't ready to have kids anytime soon.
And now...
Right before Nathan's eyes, Charlotte willingly took the folic acid.
All for the children she was planning with another man.
Blake flashed a smile and turned to Charlotte. "Ms. Sinclair, I also came by to pick up the real estate project files for tomorrow's meeting. Are they in your study? Would you mind showing me? I don't want to mess up your things."
Charlotte frowned and just said, "Okay."
She bent down and planted a quick kiss on Nathan's cheek. "I'll be right back."
She headed upstairs to the study ahead of Blake.
Blake flashed Nathan a provocative smirk as he walked by. Lowering his voice, he whispered, "Are you sure you don't want to come upstairs and see for yourself?"
Nathan knew he shouldn't let Blake get under his skin, but curiosity was eating him alive.
He needed to know just what exactly those two could do in his house.
He wondered what they took him for.
Nathan's fists clenched and unclenched as he fought to keep calm. Pretending he needed to use the bathroom, he slipped away from his friends.
Then he quietly made his way upstairs after Charlotte and Blake.
The study door was shut, but as Nathan crept closer, he could hear the sounds of a man and woman panting behind it.
To passersby, these provocative noises would've piqued anyone's curiosity.
But to Nathan, it felt like a knife was stabbing right through his heart.
Charlotte shoved Blake away as he kept trying to kiss her. "Blake, what did you come to my house for, really?"
Blake clung to her hand, pretending to look hurt. "So, you ditched me tonight just to have dinner with Nathan's buddies? You usually only eat with people worth billions. Do those regular guys even deserve your time?"
Charlotte sighed, "That's not it. They're Nathan's friends, so of course they're my friends too."
Blake couldn't hide his frustration. "You said you love me, but why do you still treat Nathan like he means so much to you?"
Charlotte chuckled. "Blake, that's a silly question. Loving you doesn't mean I can't care about others. But when it comes to my husband, that will always be Nathan. I've told you this before, haven't I?"
