Chapter 5

It was the first Monday in July. I'd checked, and my mom and Richard's family of four had left for Qurantica last Friday.

Eden had posted a photo of the hotel on his social media. The balcony looked right out over the ocean, with the caption: [Mom's picking up the tab.]

Mom. He actually calls my mom "Mom." I stared at it for three seconds, then locked my phone.

The locksmith showed up at nine. I waited for him downstairs, had two spare keys on me.

Dad gave these keys to Grandpa before he left, and Grandpa's been holding onto…
