Chapter 4

My hands shook as I struggled with the lock. The instant I pushed the door open, a blast of icy cold slammed into me.

I rushed into the snow and checked Mavis's breathing first.

It was so faint I could barely feel it.

Then I reached for Paul's hand. It was icy and stiff, like a block of ice.

"Dad, Mom," I sobbed, my whole body shaking.

I tried with all my might to pull them back inside.

But my strength just wasn't enough, and the snow on the ground was so slick that I kept slipping and falling again…
