Chapter 6
I blocked Lucas Bennett, slipped out of my evening gown, and headed for the shower.
Half an hour later, I wrapped myself in a towel and opened the bathroom door.
James was on the phone on the bedroom terrace. When he heard me, he hung up and turned around.
Seeing me standing there wrapped in a towel, James swallowed hard and stammered, "Uh, the pajamas are ready. I'll step out so you can change. I'll be in the next room. If you need anything, call me."
I stopped James as he was about to leave and dropped the towel, letting it slip off my body.
James froze, his gaze fixed on the floor. Even the tips of his ears were red, and he stammered.
"Are you sure about this?" James asked, his voice trembling.
"Honey, don't you want me? It's our wedding night," I teased, my voice soft and playful.
His answer was a powerful embrace. He scooped me up and gently placed me on the big bed.
James showered me with kisses. At first, I was shy and hesitant, but soon I lost myself in him completely.
Meanwhile, in Crestmont, Lucas sat on the sofa in his private hospital room, feeling restless and frustrated.
He never imagined that the news about their wedding never happening would go viral online and become a hot topic.
The trending topic exploded, with people saying all sorts of things. His assistant sent him screenshots, filled with nasty comments and rumors.
Lucas's heart sank. He wondered: 'Did Sophie see the trending topic?'
She must be feeling absolutely awful right now.
Damn it! Who started this mess?
If I find out who's behind it, that backstabbing jerk is going to pay!' Lucas thought.
Lucas immediately called in his PR team to suppress the trending topic.
Half an hour later, the trending topic was buried, replaced by a new one: the Grim Reaper, James Sterling, got married.
James's wedding completely dominated the trending topics, taking over every spot on the list.
He picked up the bride in a fleet of fifty-two Ferraris,a grand declaration of love.
The bridal bouquet was made of gold and diamonds, worth over 3 million dollars. The wedding dress was designed by the legendary Maxwell.
The dress alone cost over 30 million dollars, and the bride's ring was set with a diamond James had bought at auction for about 167 million dollars.
All the roses at the wedding were Damask roses flown in from overseas.
Almost a thousand security guards were on duty, and the ceremony was hosted by the most popular host in the country.
And to top it off, the hottest celebrities were invited to perform live at the wedding.
Pictures from the wedding banquet were leaked, showing bottles of wine worth over 30,000 dollars each.
Countless trending topics about James's wedding dominated the charts, pushing Lucas and Sophie's scandal off the radar.
Lucas let out a sigh of relief, but his heart soured with envy.
Damn it, James really went all out with that wedding. He wants the whole world to know he's married, Lucas thought, jealousy simmering inside.
All that ridiculous, flashy spending, such tacky, nouveau riche behavior, he scoffed to himself.
He had to admit, seeing James's bride in that wedding dress really hit a nerve. That damn Maxwell, the old bastard, Lucas had pleaded with him so many times, but he brushed him off.
Then he turns around and designs the wedding dress for James and his bride. Isn't that a slap in the face?
As jealousy bubbled up inside him, something else suddenly occurred to him.
James was famous for always keeping his distance from women. He never had any women in his life. So who on earth did he marry?
