Chapter 4
James arrived quickly. Two hours later, his motorcade appeared at the gate of my villa.
Leading the way was James's eye-catching luxury car with the lucky 88888 license plate, followed by fifty-two Ferraris.
James was dressed in a formal suit, holding a bouquet made of gold and diamonds. Behind him was a wedding team carrying bridal gowns and tuxedos.
I never got to wear the wedding dress for my wedding with Lucas. James had arranged a brand new wedding dress and tuxedo for us.
What really surprised me was that the wedding dress James prepared for me was a custom gown by Maxwell Grant, my favorite designer.
When Lucas and I were planning our wedding, he approached the famously eccentric Maxwell to design a wedding dress for me, but Maxwell turned him down without a second thought.
I'd always felt a bit of regret about it, and never imagined James would surprise me like this.
Not only was the wedding dress exactly my style, but James had also prepared eighteen formal dresses, each with matching jewelry.
The wedding dress fit me perfectly, as if it had been made for me. When I put it on, I looked like something out of a dream, breathtaking and ethereal.
The wedding venue was changed at the last minute to one of James's seven-star hotels.
James had the entire hotel cleared for us, and the wedding banquet was set up with the most luxurious package they had.
My parents quickly reached out to all our relatives and friends, telling them to head over to James's hotel.
On the way to James's hotel, Lucas called me out of the blue.
I didn't pick up and I declined the call.
Soon after, Lucas sent me a message.
Lucas: [Sophie, Charlotte's not doing well. I'm taking her to Crestmont for a check-up right now.]
I couldn't help but snicker at Lucas's message. Charlotte's not doing well? Then who was the one sending me those taunting texts now?
I had no clue what Charlotte had done to make Lucas trust her so completely.
But honestly, none of that mattered anymore.
I didn't even bother to reply to Lucas. I left his message unanswered.
Lucas didn't wait for me to reply and quickly sent another message.
Lucas: [Sophie, I know you're upset right now, and honestly, I didn't want any of this to happen today either. Someone's life is at stake.]
Lucas: [Be good, okay? We can have the wedding anytime. Trust me, when I get back, I'll make sure to plan a grand wedding for us. I'll do whatever it takes to get Maxwell to design your dress for you.]
Ha, Lucas, you're too late, a cold smile tugging at my lips.
Your promises mean nothing to me now. Someone else has already given me the wedding dress I always dreamed of.
As I was lost in thought, Lucas shot over another message, sounding more impatient this time.
Lucas: [Why are you ignoring me? Sophie, this really isn't the time for you to give me the silent treatment, okay? Do you know how hard you're making this for me? Whatever, stay mad if you want. We'll talk when you've cooled off.]
Lucas didn't message me again, but then Charlotte sent me a video from her side account.
In the clip, a helicopter soared into a brilliant blue sky dotted with white clouds, with two hands tightly intertwined in the frame.
Lucas actually went all out and got a helicopter to fly Charlotte to Crestmont. Wow, what a touching display of devotion, I rolling my eyes.
I couldn't watch another second of that nauseating video,I shut off my phone.
