Sophie cried out, "Mom!"

I hung up.

Ben frowned.

"The Lane Family?" he asked.

I nodded.

"What are they trying to pull?" he asked.

Before I could answer, Emily, the receptionist, rushed in.

"Mr. Carter, someone just posted something in the client group chat," she said.

I checked my phone.

In the group chat with some of our restaurant clients, a strange number had posted a message.

It said I'd gotten violent before the wedding, was taken away by the police, and the wedding was called off because the bride couldn't take my controlling behavior anymore.
