Chapter 4
Sophia dug her nails into her palm as if she couldn't feel the pain.
She thought about Henry's excuse about fulfilling his teacher's last wish and found it more absurd.
She didn't storm in and ask for an explanation.
It was pointless now.
She decided to stop torturing herself.
Back in the bedroom, Sophia put the divorce papers on the nightstand by Henry's side.
As she was about to get up, the door burst open.
"Perfect timing. Sign this—" Her words were cut off.
It was a slap from Henry.
Before Sophia could finish her words, a heavy slap landed on her face.
Her eyes widened in shock. It took her a second to realize what had happened.
Henry hit her again!
Sophia's eyes flashed with fury, and she slapped him hard across the face.
Henry stood rooted to the spot and looked more intimidating.
"Sophia, if you're upset, take it out on me. But why did you have to ruin Charlotte's life?" Henry shouted.
Sophia snorted.
"I ruined her life? As if I told you to hook up with her."
Henry's face twisted with rage. "So you admit it!"
"Admit what?" Sophia's brow furrowed.
"Admit that you leaked the news about Charlotte having a baby, and had someone post my son's photo to the school's official page!"
Sophia was surprised at how quickly Henry had embraced his new role as a father.
The thought of her child who never got to come into this world sent a pain through her heart.
She remained expressionless. "Since you're so sure it was me, why come here to ask?"
Even if she hated Henry for lying to her, using an innocent kid was never even an option for her.
Sophia had a temper, but she'd decided to walk away from Henry. She wouldn't lower herself to such dirty tricks.
Henry went silent when seeing her expression, like he was figuring out if she was lying.
But the next second, a figure darted past the master bedroom and rushed downstairs.
Before Sophia could even make out who it was, Henry hurried out.
Sophia threw on a coat and walked out with a distant face. She saw Charlotte cry so hard and Henry wrap his arms around her tightly.
"Let me go. I don't want any child now. I'll tell Richard that I'm not a slut or a home wrecker. The only one I ever loved was him. Please, let me go, let me go!" Charlotte sobbed.
The more she struggled, the tighter Henry held her.
"Charlotte, please, calm down. He knew what kind of person you are. He wouldn't blame you. Please, trust me." Henry's voice was full of sincerity.
But Charlotte seemed obsessed. All she wanted was to beg her late husband for forgiveness.
If Sophia hadn't seen Charlotte gloat in front of her, she might've thought Charlotte was truly in love with her late husband.
Sophia sneered and didn't want another second wasted on this drama.
Just as Sophia was about to leave, a hand yanked her back hard.
"Sophia, apologize to Charlotte for everything you've done to her," Henry demanded.
As soon as Henry finished speaking, Charlotte's head snapped up, her eyes wide as she stared at Sophia.
"You did this?" Charlotte trembled in shock. "I shouldn't have agreed to it. I shouldn't have!"
Sophia clenched her fists. "I am not apologizing for something I didn't do."
Seeing Charlotte about to lose it, Henry paid no attention to Sophia. He cupped Charlotte's face, bent down, and pressed his lips firmly against hers.
"Charlotte, I'm the one who should be blamed for having feelings for you. I won't let you be humiliated for something you didn't do. Whatever happens, I'll take care of it." Henry hurried to calm her down.
Sophia froze on the spot. Her heart felt as if it had been torn open all over again. The pain brought by Henry's betrayal was so fierce it made her tremble.
Henry gestured for the bodyguards and ordered them to force Sophia to her knees and make her apologize.
Sophia went mad as she bit down hard on one bodyguard's hand.
"How could you do this to me, Henry?" Sophia yelled.
Henry's eyes darkened.
He spoke slowly, "Your father asked me about Rosewood Estate a few days ago. Seems he's planning to gift it to his other daughter."
A bolt of shock ran through Sophia.
Her eyes flew wide open and were fixed on Henry in total disbelief.
He knew better than anyone that Rosewood Estate was everything to her.
Her father had tried to get his hands on it, and Sophia had been so furious that she'd marched into his mansion, knife in hand. After that, he never dared bring it up again.
But now, Henry was using it to threaten her.
Sophia's reaction verified his assumption.
Henry thought he hit the mark.
The next second, the bodyguard caught her off guard and kicked her right in the knees.
A dull thud was heard.
Sophia's knees hit the floor with a heavy thud.
She tried to stand, but someone behind her slammed an electric baton into her back.
The surge of electricity made her collapse to the floor.
But she still wouldn't give in. With her forehead pressed to the ground, she endured shock again and again.
Charlotte gasped.
"Henry... Your wife... She wet herself." Charlotte's voice was shaking.
