Chapter 6
Early the next morning, Fiona had just arrived at the office and was in the middle of handing over her work when her phone rang. It was Giselle.
"I'm about to have my wedding with Damon. Come help me pick out a wedding dress," Giselle said.
Fiona quickly gave a few instructions to the new secretary and hurried to the bridal shop.
As soon as she stepped into the bridal shop, a bunch of women dressed to impress swarmed around her. "Giselle, is this your new maid? She looks so plain."
"Yeah, not a single thing on her looks pricey. She looks totally broke."
"Oh, come on, she's not a maid," Giselle said, arching an eyebrow and shooting Fiona a playful look. "She's Damon's secretary; he sent her to help me out."
"Secretary?" one of the women said with fake innocence. "I heard she used to be Mr. Rycroft's old flame. Now that you are back, she's stuck playing maid?"
With everyone laughing, Fiona just stared at Giselle. "Weren't you the one who asked me to help you pick out wedding dresses?"
"Yeah, does this wedding dress look amazing on me or what?" Giselle teased.
That was when Fiona realized Giselle was wearing the very wedding dress she'd been longing for day and night.
She'd once told Damon that if she ever got married, she would wear this handcrafted, custom-made gown.
But she never thought she'd see it on Giselle.
Giselle admired herself in the mirror, her lips curling into a mocking smirk. "Well, Fiona, what do you think? I heard from the staff that you came to look at this dress, too. Are you planning to get married or something?"
A few days ago, Fiona had actually come to see this wedding dress.
Back then, she used to dream about wearing it on her birthday, walking down the aisle with Damon.
But now, none of that mattered anymore.
Giselle was just trying to provoke her, thinking Fiona would get mad. But Fiona was already over it.
"Just passing by, thought I'd take a look, that's all," Fiona said.
"Good. If it's not yours, you'd better not get any ideas," Giselle said, exchanging a look with her friends before she sauntered over to Fiona. "Come on, help me downstairs. I want to see what else they've got."
Fiona stepped forward to help her down the stairs. As they reached the corner, Giselle suddenly slipped, shrieking as she fell down the steps. "My stomach..."
She curled up on the floor in pain, her white wedding dress stained with a splash of blood.
"Oh my god, Giselle, are you okay?" one of the women cried out.
"Fiona, are you insane? How could you push Giselle like that?" another woman shouted.
Seeing all that blood, Fiona frowned. 'I swear, I didn't even touch her,' she thought.
"Giselle." Damon rushed in, his eyes going red with panic and anger as he saw Giselle sprawled on the floor.
Damon glared at Fiona, his stare so sharp that it could cut through steel. "Did you push her?" he demanded.
"It was her. We all saw it, even the staff. Mr. Rycroft, please, you have to stand up for Giselle," one of the women shouted.
"Don't be hard on her; it was my fault," Giselle sobbed, clinging to Damon. "Damon, I'm so scared. What if something happens to our baby?"
Fiona shook her head, her voice steady. "I didn't touch her."
Damon carefully scooped Giselle into his arms, and as he passed Fiona, his words were laced with anguish. "Fiona, if anything happens to Giselle or the baby, I swear I'll make you pay with your life."
As Damon left, Fiona stared at the glaring red stain on the floor, not even bothering to defend herself.
She knew that once Damon made up his mind, nothing she said would ever change it.
