I hadn't gone far from the apartment complex when Irene came running after me, out of breath. "Miss, wait. You forgot the sign-off sheet."

I took the sheet, my throat dry, and barely managed to squeeze out, "Thanks."

I hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Can I ask you something? Why did you want to buy that painting?"

Irene smiled, a nostalgic look in her eyes. "Because the silhouette in that painting reminds me so much of my first love, the guy you saw. We were together in college, and he always wore this faded blue shirt.
