Chapter 5

Alex left with Sophie and drove her all the way back home. He could tell she'd been really shaken up today.

Whenever Sophie got upset, she was just like a little bunny, fragile and timid. But at least she was safe and sound, and that was what mattered most.

He figured his parents-in-law must have said something harsh, so he comforted Sophie, "Don't worry. Just ignore whatever they said. I'll clear things up later. And trust me, they've already paid the price."

Sophie finally broke into a smile, tears still glistening on her cheeks.

"Thank you, Alex," she said softly.
