The meds for ALS were insanely expensive. Rilutek cost over one thousand dollars a month, and the imported version was even pricier. With hospital stays, rehab, nutrition, and a caregiver, our basic monthly expenses were nearly seven thousand dollars.

The tile shop had to close since no one was left to run it. My salary plus some side gigs barely covered the monthly expenses, but David's condition was getting worse fast.
