Chapter 5
That day, Jacob washed up early and sprawled out on his bed, phone in hand, making a call.
The Thomas Group had a ton of business going on, and Jacob's parents were constantly traveling all over the place. Even when they called, it was just to talk business.
Having me in the house didn't really make a difference to them. The only thing they bothered to ask about was the test results.
Jacob watched my back as he finished updating his parents and hung up. He saw me with my headphones on, catching up on Friends.
I was obsessed with Friends. It had everything, like friendship, romance, and even family. But this stupid show always got to me, making me feel all kinds of things. Was anyone really that lucky in real life?
Chandler was proposing to Monica on screen, and I was tearing up as I watched.
I didn't realize Jacob had been quietly watching me for a while. Suddenly, he pulled back the blanket.
He picked me up sideways and dropped me onto his bed.
I was still clutching my phone, tears streaming down, when he lifted my chin, forcing me to look at him.
"Why are you crying?" Jacob asked.
I was bewildered.
"Crying again? You're so loud," he complained.
Seriously? Why was he always so nosy? I actually felt a little rebellious for once. "I wasn't even making any noise," I muttered.
"Doesn't matter. Your sniffles are way too loud," he shot back.
Could anyone believe this guy? I was beyond exasperated.
I was pissed but didn't dare talk back. I just pouted and glared at him.
Jacob snatched my phone and tossed it onto the nightstand, then pulled back the covers and slid in beside me. "No more crying. Go to sleep," he ordered.
What the hell was he doing?
Was he seriously planning to sleep in the same bed as me?
I stared at him, eyes wide, and all my anger just vanished.
Jacob seemed to realize what he was doing, and for a split second, he looked awkward. He cleared his throat. "I just don't want you rolling over and crushing the baby."
He said it like it was the most normal thing ever, so I didn't press him.
Oh well, it was not like we hadn't slept in the same bed before.
Without a word, I rolled over and hugged the edge of the bed, out like a light.
I was totally oblivious to the fact that Jacob was in and out of the bathroom all night.
After that day, Jacob was like a whole new person, clingy and way more gentle.
He wouldn't let me sleep alone and made me share his bed, saying my belly was getting bigger and that sleeping on a small bed might squish the baby.
The hospital results came back, and Harper was in a great mood after seeing them. She even added a few more million to my compensation.
Just thinking about how I'd be rolling in nine-digit wealth after having the baby, I couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement.
But Jacob had been in a bad mood these days.
He kept griping that I was too loud when I practiced my spoken language, and when I said I'd go do it in the closet, he still wasn't having it.
He moped around all day with a face like someone owed him a fortune.
I didn't want to start a fight, so I just let him have his way whenever I could, but that only made him sulk even more.
One day, he said he was going out to eat with friends and ended up coming home pretty late.
He was clearly drunk, stumbling as he walked.
The servants rushed over to help, but he shooed them away and wouldn't let anyone in.
I heard the door click open, and there was Jacob, sprawled out on the couch, totally wasted and mumbling about how awful he felt.
I ended up helping him change and wipe him down.
I thought it'd be a pain to get his clothes off since he was drunk, but when I tugged at his collar, he just sat up by himself and pulled off his own sleeves.
He was actually not a bad drunk.
At eighteen, Jacob had an impressive build, defined abs, a strong chest, and biceps that were perfectly toned.
Last time, it was pitch black, and I didn't get a chance to really see him. Now, with nothing rushing me, I wiped him down slowly, taking my time to admire every detail.
Growing up in a messed-up home and always having to deal with creepy old guys in the village, I never really felt anything for men; my radar for that kind of stuff was basically broken.
The only reason I ended up with Jacob was that his family had money and connections.
But now, with the whole house quiet and just me and this gorgeous, drunk guy alone together, I could actually feel a bit of romantic tension in the air.
Especially since he wouldn't settle down, grabbing my hand and guiding it over his body. It made my heart raced even faster.
I gave him a little pinch and said, "Jacob, you're drunk. I'm just trying to wipe your face."
With his eyes shut tight, he mumbled, "No, don't."
He wasn't acting all cold and hard to get like he usually did.
I couldn't help teasing him a bit. "Come on, let me have a feel, Hotty. I promise my hands are gentle."
Jacob's eyes snapped open, and he grabbed me, pulling me right onto his chest.
The heavy smell of booze hit my nose. "Hotty?" he teased.
Damn, this guy wasn't drunk at all. He was just putting on an act.
