Chapter 4

Chloe thrashed in the water, screaming, "Mom, help me!"

Vivian shot me a look of pure hatred. "Rachel, I never thought you'd be this cruel—pushing a child into the water?"

I shrugged. "She's not gonna last much longer. You just gonna stand there?"

Vivian panicked, but she couldn't swim—all she could do was scream for help.

No one was about to risk themselves for a stranger's kid. They just stood there watching.

Right as Chloe was about to go under, Lucas came sprinting over.

Andy's face lit up. "Dad! It's Dad!"

Lucas fought his way through the water toward Chloe.
