I didn't hear about Emily's wedding from her.

Kevin mentioned it in passing as he handed me my schedule.

"Tonight's business reception is at Brightwood Club," he said. "At the same time, the Carter family is holding the wedding."

I nodded, and took the file. "Stick to the original plan."

He asked nothing else.

The Carter wedding was kept low-key, held at an unremarkable hotel on the south side of town with a tightly controlled guest list that excluded anyone connected to the Collins family.

That arrangement alone said plenty: they wanted no scene, but they still intended to go…
