Jeremy made no move to pick it up.

Those words, late-stage stomach cancer and Swonica, kept looping in his head, stabbing him with sharp pain.

He stumbled back and crashed into the desk.

He thought this couldn't be true and wondered how Elaine could have stomach cancer.

Elaine had only complained of a slight stomachache.

She always said it was an old minor issue.

"Find out!" Jeremy grabbed the telephone, his voice hoarse. "Check all flights to Swonica for today and yesterday."

He hung up and bolted out of the study.
