"Discharge?" The attending physician's voice was sharp with disbelief. "Are you kidding me?"

I bowed my head slightly.

"Sorry to trouble you, Doctor," I said.

He scribbled his signature carelessly, shoved the papers into my hands, and walked off to do his rounds.

Finally, I went home. I stood for a moment in a patch of sunlight by the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Then, I heard the sound of the door unlocking coming from behind.

I looked back from my shoulder and saw Jason.
