Chapter 4
My grip on the fork tightened, and my appetite vanished entirely.
"Take your time eating. I'm going to head out."
"Oh, don't leave yet; chat with me for a bit," Celestia reached out, trying to pull me back, but I shook her off abruptly.
Her hand accidentally hit the table, toppling her raspberry latte onto the floor.
"Ah!" she exclaimed, her hand slightly scalded. "Amara, what are you doing? I just wanted to chat about having kids."
"What are you doing, Amara?" Dorian rushed over, having heard the commotion, immediately scolding me.
"Celestia is eight months pregnant; you know she can't be stressed out. If anything happens to her or the baby, I won't forgive you."
I scoffed, "I'm eight months pregnant too, and blind, remember? It was just an accident. Would you not forgive me too?"
"You..."
Realizing he might've been too harsh, Dorian sighed, "Alright, since you can't see, I won't blame you. Just sit down and chat with Celestia. It's her first child; she's a bit anxious."
Ha, of course.
Hearing that felt like a stab to my heart.
It's Celestia's first child, but isn't it mine too?
Forced back to the table, I dropped my fork on the floor and leaned over to pick it up.
That's when I saw it—Celestia's foot, playfully tangled around Dorian's pant leg under the table, an all-too-intimate gesture.
I sat upright, my gaze cold as I watched them kiss passionately right in front of me.
Just a meal, but because I couldn't see, they had to go this far!
I tossed the fork onto the table and turned away.
"You two enjoy your meal. I'm going back to my room."
"Hold on, Amara, there's a document I need you to sign," Dorian finally spoke up.
He placed a document before me, pushing a pen into my hand.
"What document?"
I glanced down, the words "Divorce Agreement" glaringly bold.
A heavy sadness enveloped me, but with the pen in hand, a cold smile formed in my heart.
He was really this eager, wasn't he?
"Oh, the baby's almost due, and my mom wants to gift you a house, a little present. This is the property deed; just sign it."
He relied on my blindness, lying so effortlessly.
Celestia added, "Oh, I'm so envious, Amara. I wish I had your luck. I'd love to be Mrs. Phillips and receive such a big gift too. I'm so jealous!"
I pressed my lips together, expressionless as I asked, "Dorian, tell me, do you really want me to sign this document?"
"Why would you say that? You don't want my mom's gift?"
Dorian seemed anxious; my expression must have been off.
Could she have figured something out?
He waved his hand in front of my eyes.
Seeing no reaction, he sighed in relief.
"Alright, since you want me to sign, I'll oblige you."
I swiftly signed my name where he indicated.
Just as I finished, Dorian's phone rang.
He probably already guessed it was his mother calling, so he stepped aside to take the call, ensuring I wouldn't hear.
"Mom? What's up?"
"Dorian, is what you said on TV true? You're divorcing Amara to marry Celestia? Are you out of your mind? Amara's still carrying your child!"
It was Rosalind on the other end; she'd seen the news and was calling to question him.
Rosalind had always liked me ever since Dorian and I were young.
I'd been the daughter-in-law she'd wanted, and now learning about the divorce and his intention to marry a woman with a tarnished reputation, how could she not be upset?
"Mom, calm down. It's just a temporary measure. I promised to protect Celestia's reputation. Once the baby is born, I'll divorce her. As for Amara, I'll make it right. We will remarry."
"Remarry?"
Celestia, overhearing the conversation, paled. She thought Dorian genuinely wanted to marry her, only to find out it was just temporary?
But it didn't matter; as long as she got him to marry her, she wouldn't give him a chance to divorce.
He thought I couldn't hear, but since I lost my sight, my hearing had sharpened considerably.
I laughed coldly to myself. He thought he had his plans all sorted out, but little did he know, I had long decided to leave him.
Remarry? Not a chance in this lifetime!
