Chapter 1
When my family went bankrupt and my parents died in a car crash, I severed all ties with my brother Lucas Shea, who was critically ill with heart disease, and married into a wealthy family.
Five years later, Lucas rose from the ashes and became a big shot.
During an interview, a reporter asked him whom he couldn't forget.
Lucas scoffed. "My sister, the one who ditched me to chase after a rich guy. I heard her sugar daddy went bankrupt and took his own life. I bet she's regretting it now."
The video went viral, and everyone online started searching for me, calling me an ungrateful wretch who betrayed her own family.
But in the end, all they found was the diary I wrote before I died.
The day Lucas held a press conference to announce he was splitting the Shea family fortune with his adopted sister, someone online posted the first page of my diary.
When Lucas's secretary, Emily White, informed him of the diary, he paused for a moment, then scoffed, "Is this another one of Hannah's tricks? She's still as dumb as ever."
Emily said carefully, "People online are saying Ms. Hannah Shea's body has already been cremated. They only found her diary."
Before she could finish, Lucas's face turned grim.
He sneered, "She's really got some nerve, making up a story like this.
"Get in touch with the poster and tell Hannah to quit with these tricks. I've already got a sister now. Even if she's really dead, I wouldn't bother to check."
Emily nodded and started to leave, but Lucas called her back.
"Read out what's in the diary," he said, rubbing his brow. "Let's see what kind of nonsense she's come up with this time."
Emily pulled out her phone and started reading my first diary.
It read: [March 23rd, 2020. I was having dinner with Victor Scott when Lucas walked in on us.
[Lucas was still in his hospital gown. He clutched my hand so tight that it hurt. He shouted at me, 'Are you out of your mind? Victor's a bastard. He'll destroy you.'
[I was annoyed. Why was he running around when he was still sick?
[Lucas thought I was upset, so he softened his tone and told me he was just worried about me. I was the only family he had left, and he couldn't stand the thought of me getting hurt.
[For a moment, I felt a pang in my chest.
[But I pulled his hand away and taunted, 'Victor can treat me to upscale restaurants and buy me luxury bags. What can you do?
['Your company went under, and you're just a sickly mess who only knows how to burn through cash. If I don't figure something else out, am I supposed to sit here and starve?'
[I said all those harsh things, but Lucas had guilt written all over his face.
[He held onto my hand, his eyes red and swollen, begging me to give him a little more time. He swore he'd turn things around and give me the life I deserved.
[When Victor walked over, Lucas grabbed his arm, his voice breaking as he pleaded with him not to take me away.
[He hated Victor so much, but he was desperate enough to beg him.
[Before Victor could even get a word out, I smacked Lucas right across the face and told him to quit hanging onto me. I snapped, 'You are ruining my shot at a rich life. We're done. You're nothing to me now.'
[That slap left Lucas completely stunned.
[As I walked away with Victor, I could hear him sobbing behind me.
[Lucas had always been so tough. When our parents passed away, he hadn't cried at all.
[I was sorry, Lucas. I must have really let him down.]
My first diary ended.
Emily scrolled through the comments on the post.
The netizens were stunned and started dragging me through the mud.
[How can someone be so cold-blooded and backstabbing?]
[I know Victor Scott. He's a notorious womanizer. Isn't Hannah grossed out by him?]
[Lucas is on the rich list now. That ungrateful wretch must be regretting it big time.]
[My heart breaks for Lucas, the world's best brother. Good thing he's got Nora now. That backstabber Hannah needs to get lost.]
Nora was Lucas's adopted sister.
Emily looked up at Lucas, watching his face for any sign of reaction.
His expression was cold and indifferent, without a flicker of emotion.
After a moment, he pulled out his phone and posted on Twitter: [Sorry for the embarrassment of having a sister like Hannah. Thanks for caring, but don't compare her to Nora. Nora doesn't deserve that.]
