The entire office was dead silent.

I picked up my small box of personal things and walked toward the man who had spoken.

"Leon?" I said. "What are you doing here?"

Leon Lloyd, my old friend from college, gently took the box from my hands.

"I let you get away once, ten years ago," he said, his voice quiet. "I wasn't going to be slow on the draw this time."

I just stared at him, stunned.

"I mean, you're a genius. You're a catch for anyone," he said. "You can run a lab, and you can own a boardroom."
