Chapter 3
That night, I got home late after overtime work.
I fumbled with my keys and opened the door. Felix sat up groggily from the couch and immediately started in on me.
He said, "Look what time it is! I told you to call me so I could pick you up from the hospital if you were going to be late. Why do you have to be so stubborn?"
I brushed past him and headed straight for the couch. "It's not like you just met me. Don't you know what I'm like by now?"
Felix ignored me and started in again. "I went to the bridal shop to look for you yesterday. Why weren't you there? Our wedding is only two days away. Can you take something this important seriously for once?"
I called him out without hesitation. "Didn't the shop assistant tell you that I, your bride-to-be, had already been there when you went to the bridal shop?
"Besides, if my partner won't cooperate, even ten thousand times more effort on my part will be in vain."
Felix looked awkward. "Can you quit with the snark? I had something important come up yesterday, that's why I couldn't make it. It's not like I ditched you on purpose."
I let out a laugh, pulled up the photo Sabrina sent me on my phone, and held it right in front of his face.
Then I said, "Oh, so your 'something important' was giving my wedding dress to Sabrina and cozying up with her all night? I bet you two did plenty of sordid things, huh?"
Felix snatched the phone from me and hurled it to the floor.
He scowled and snapped, "Romina! Nothing happened between Sabrina and me last night. She just wanted me to keep her company.
"You can insult me all you want, but don't you dare insult Sabrina. If she heard you, it'd break her heart. Can't you be a little more understanding?"
I stared blankly at my shattered phone on the floor, my words slow and deliberate. "Let's break up. I'll step aside and make room for you and Sabrina."
"Seriously? You said this yesterday, and now again today. You're just using breaking up to threaten me, aren't you?" Felix shot back.
Seeing my resolve, Felix eased up and moved in to hug me. "Okay, I get that you're angry. I'll have the designer's newest dress delivered to you right away. I'll make sure you're the most stunning bride out there."
I pulled away from him coldly and pushed him back. "I'm tired. Just move. I'm going to my room."
That night marked the first time we slept in separate rooms since we started dating.
