The smile froze on Alex's face.

I kept my head down, and my voice got smaller with every word. "I saw the poster in the trash.

"I thought I looked a little bit like her.

"I don't have parents. I mean, I do, but they don't want me.

"I wanted somebody to want me.

"So I called the number.

"I'm sorry."

I put my face into the blanket.

I waited for him to yell at me or hit me.
