Chapter 1
As the Luna, I gave the Alpha of Wolves an heir. In return, he cast me aside without a second thought and threw me into the Outcast Camp.
But to my utter disbelief, I was transported back at the very moment of our bonding ceremony.
The Alpha of Wolves, gazed at me with what looked like true affection and said, "I vow to forge an eternal bond with you as my mate."
Then a voice echoed in my mind.
Ding! The Heartbreak System has been activated.
Option 1: Reject the bond and unlock the Revenge Route. Option 2: Accept the bond and unlock the Heartbreak Redemption Route.
I stared at his hypocritical face, bit down hard on my tongue, and spat a mouthful of blood onto the ritual. "By my blood, I swear, never in my life will I bond with Alpha Augustus Blackmane."
Alpha Augustus Blackmane froze. The elders froze.
The light of the bonding ritual, now stained with my blood, faded in an instant.
The shock in Augustus's eyes turned swiftly into blazing fury, and the crushing aura of the Wolf Alpha bore down on me.
"Lisa Silvermoon, do you have any idea what you're doing?" he growled.
I knew it better than anyone.
In my previous life, I had stood in this very ceremony, full of hope, and became his Luna.
I believed it was the beginning of my happiness. It turned out to be the start of a nightmare that would haunt me until my dying breath.
I helped him secure his throne. I led our kind in his name. And in the end, I gave him an heir.
But when I was at my weakest after childbirth, he held Morgan Nightshade, his cherished darling, in his arms and told me I was too strong. He said I didn't know how to be soft, how to be tender.
He told me that Morgan, a lesser-born who could not even shift into a wolf, needed him more than I ever could as his Luna.
And then, he threw me into the Outcast Camp.
I watched helplessly as Morgan moved into my chambers, cradled my child in her arms, and took my rightful place.
On a freezing winter night, feverish and trembling, I died alone in a filthy pile of straw.
While I lay dying, my Alpha was throwing a lavish birthday celebration for his newest darling.
Now that I have a second life, I couldn't care less about this so-called mate bond. Anyone who wanted it could have it.
Facing his murderous glare, I answered calmly, "I said, I'm not interested."
The wolves around us erupted into chaos.
"Is she out of her mind? She turned down the Alpha of Wolves?"
"Who does she think she is? This is the will of the Moon Goddess!"
The head elder's beard quivered with rage. He jabbed a finger at me and roared, "Lisa Silvermoon! How dare you defy the Alpha of Wolves and the Moon Goddess? You will be cast out from our kind for this."
Augustus raised a hand, and the uproar died at once.
He strode toward me, his oppressive aura so heavy it was hard to breathe.
"I will give you one last chance, Lisa Silvermoon. Kneel and beg for my forgiveness right now, and I will pretend none of this ever happened," Augustus said coldly.
He thought he was offering me a kindness. To me, it felt more revolting than drinAlpha from a filthy trough.
I laughed. "My Alpha, a mate bond is meant to be mutual. I want no part of it, so this bond will never be."
The moment the words left my mouth, a searing pain burst through my chest and spread to every inch of my body. It was the punishment for defying fate.
Augustus let out a strangled groan, his face going pale as he clutched the same spot on his chest.
We were bound by fate. If I refused him, we both had to pay the price.
The glare he fixed on me was so fierce it felt as though he wanted to burn me alive right then and there.
Perfect. This was only the beginning. This time, I would make him taste the very depths of torment.
*****
The bonding ceremony turned into a complete circus.
I rejected him before the entire assembly, maAlpha Augustus the laughingstock of all Wolfkind.
He did not kill me on the spot. Because of the fate-mate bond, my death would bring him equal suffering. But that did not mean he was out of ways to make my life a living hell.
The day after the ceremony, the Wolf Alpha's decree swept through the pack like wildfire.
He said, "Lisa Silvermoon, for defying the throne and disrespecting the Moon Goddess, your status as Luna candidate is hereby revoked.
"From this day forward, you are stripped of all titles and banished to the Outcast Camp."
When the news reached me, I was already pacAlpha. More precisely, I was gathering everything that once belonged to me, ready to return it all to Augustus.
All those gorgeous gowns and glittering jewels, he had only ever given them to me so he could show off his Luna.
Last time, I treasured them. Now, all I felt was bitter irony.
The Pack Steward who delivered the message shot me a look full of scorn and poorly hidden glee.
"Lisa, you have lost your standing, so you had better report to the Outcast Camp at once. Do not test the Alpha of Wolves' patience further," he said.
I ignored him, walked straight up, and shoved the last box into his hands. "Give these back to Augustus."
The Pack Steward hesitated, opened the box, and his expression darkened when he saw its contents. "What is the meaning of this? Some kind of trick?"
"It means I have no use for anything that has been touched by him," I replied.
His face turned purple with rage.
I didn't spare him another glance and turned to leave.
*****
I found myself back at the Outcast Camp, the very place where my previous life had ended in disgrace.
The moment I stepped into that filthy, crumbling settlement, a pack of familiar faces closed in around me.
Leading them was Maggie Sharpfang, a thin-faced she-wolf who had spent my previous life stealing my food and tormenting me without mercy.
"Well, well, look who decided to visit us, the future Luna herself. What brings you to our humble little camp?" she sneered.
She let out a mocAlpha laugh, and the wolves behind her howled with laughter too.
