Michael sounded annoyed.

I jumped and almost dropped the frame.

I caught it and turned around. Michael stood there, leaning against the doorframe. His face was blank.

His eyes went from the frame in my hand to the suitcase by my feet. Something shifted in his gaze.

"I was packing." I steadied my voice and put the frame back. "I'm staying with Sophie for a while."

He laughed and walked closer. That heavy presence pressed in.

"What, found your backup and now you're running away?" he sneered.
