Chapter 4
"I'm here to talk to you about something," Carlos said, then glanced at Elara beside him.
They exchanged a look, a smile passing between them. It was unmistakably intimate.
With all the nobles watching, he turned to my father. "Lord Redwin, on behalf of the Bloodfang family, I formally request the annulment of my engagement to your daughter, Audrey Nightsong."
The entire hall went silent.
Everyone stared at us, their hands holding goblets suspended in mid-air.
My father's face darkened. "Reason?"
Carlos's smile was flawless, almost mocking. "I just don't think this marriage should go on any longer. Audrey's talents..."
He paused, letting the silence hang. "She's simply not a good fit for the future of the Bloodfang family. I have no intention of letting my heirs inherit an F-rank bloodline."
Then Elena stepped forward, slipping her arm through Carlos's. In a gentle voice that carried across the hall, she said, "Dear Uncle, please don't blame Carlos. We..."
She glanced at me, her eyes full of pity.
"We truly love each other."
Then, right in front of me, they started making out.
It was a full-on tongue kiss.
It wasn't just a quick peck. It was a slow, possessive kiss, clearly putting on a show for everyone.
The vampire nobles around us let out restrained whistles and murmurs. Some were even clapping.
I stared at them, my gaze cold and unwavering.
Before my father could say a word, I let out a laugh, sharp and a little bitter.
"Annulment?" I said.
Carlos released his hold on Elena's waist and raised an eyebrow at me. "Do you agree?"
I said as I headed out, "Yeah, I agree. No way I'd marry a weakling like you who passes out after smelling garlic."
Carlos's face fell.
Everyone heard it. With my dad right there, Carlos had no choice but to swallow his anger, fists clenched, just watching me leave the hall.
