Hearing Jamie address me that way felt unbelievably satisfying.

I lowered my eyes to the keys in my hand and slipped them into my pocket.

After my mother passed out from crying, I sent her back to her room.

The doctor said she needed rest, so I told the maid to close all the curtains and gently shut the door.

She was much easier to deal with while she was asleep. At least then she wouldn't grab my sleeve and ask what had happened to my father or cry while accusing me of not being heartbroken enough.
