Chapter 1
"This is for Lila. It's 150 thousand. Buy whatever you want. Zara, this is yours. It's 1,500. Try to make it last," Helen Jennings said to her two daughters.
As I walked by, I couldn't help rolling my eyes, thinking. 'Seriously? 150 thousand for Lila, while 1,500 for Zara. That's a hundred times difference. She's utterly biased in favor of Zara.'
As that thought crossed my mind, a robotic voice suddenly rang out. [Detected a major double standard. The Roasting System has been activated.
[Host's complaints will be automatically converted to speech. Each emotional critical hit will earn you 30 thousand dollars.]
The next second, my inner thoughts came out of my mouth. "Seriously? 150 thousand for Lila, while 1,500 for Zara. That's a hundred times difference. She's utterly biased in favor of Zara."
The living room went dead silent.
Vincent, his wife, Helen, as well as their daughters, Lila Jennings and Zara Jennings, all stared at me at the same time.
And I was the newbie maid, starting my first day.
*****
My name was Yvonne, and I was a professional maid. Today was my first day working for the Jennings family.
Before I started, the agency kept reminding me that the Jennings family was super rich and had tons of rules. Basically, I was supposed to keep quiet, do my job, and barely breathe unless I absolutely had to.
I meekly agreed. With a salary of 10 thousand dollars a month, honestly, if they wanted me to do photosynthesis right there, I'd give it a shot.
But I never expected that on my very first day, I'd end up roasting my employers.
Helen Jennings' face, normally flawlessly preserved and well-maintained, paled then flushed by turns.
She jabbed a finger at me, her voice trembling. "Yvonne, hold your tongue, you maid. What ridiculous nonsense are you spouting?"
I thought, 'A maid? It's the 21st century, and people are still clinging to feudal leftovers.
'And seriously, am I talking nonsense? 150 thousand dollars versus 1,500 dollars? Even a kid could get numbers right. But you've messed these up terribly.'
My mouth was like a runaway machine gun, firing off my thoughts like bullets. "A maid? It's the 21st century, and people are still clinging to feudal leftovers.
"And seriously, am I talking nonsense? 150 thousand dollars versus 1,500 dollars? Even a kid could get numbers right. But you've messed these up terribly."
I paused, then twisted the knife. "Come on, even a three-year-old would spot how wrong these numbers are."

System: [B-tier emotional critical hit. Reward: 30 thousand dollars. Deposited into your system account.]
Hearing that sweet notification in my head and seeing the Jennings family about to explode from rage got me thinking.
Making money was way easier than I thought.
Vincent Jennings slammed his hand on the table and shouted, "How dare you? Who gave you the guts to talk to your bosses like that? You're fired. Get out, right now."
'Oh, Mr. Jennings is laying down the law. Too bad, you're not the one who signed my contract,' I thought.
My mouth went off again. "Actually, you two didn't sign my contract. If you want to fire me, maybe you should check with Mr. Foster first."
Yael Foster was my actual boss.
He was the one who got me this gig with the Jennings family through the agency, paid my salary, and my contract was with him.
I didn't know why he went through all that trouble. I was a worker who got paid to do what I was told.
Vincent and Helen's expressions shifted instantly. Yael was the kind of guy they didn't mess with.
They figured I was sent by Yael to spy on them, and their faces went pale and sour, but nobody dared bring up firing me anymore.
Lila Jennings, the fake heiress, was starting to get restless.
She wrapped herself around Helen's arm, eyes getting teary as she whined, "Mom, even the maid dares to pick on me. Now that Zara's back, do you guys not care about me anymore?"
I rolled my eyes, thinking. 'Here it comes, the classic drama queen move. Do you not love me anymore? Holy shit.
'Zara comes back, and you get 150 thousand dollars in pocket money, while she gets 1,500. Who's really the one being treated unfairly here? Seriously, can you not do the math?'
My Roasting System went off again. "Zara comes back, and you get 150 thousand dollars in pocket money, while she gets 1,500. Who's really the one being treated unfairly here? Want me to buy you a calculator so you can figure it out?"
Lila's face went very pale in an instant.
She'd probably never been put on blast like this by a maid before. She was so furious that she could barely speak. "Y-You're making things up. I was holding onto it for Mom and Dad."
I thought, 'Holding onto it? What a joke. Last month, you blew a million on a crappy vase, claimed it was for your dad's birthday, and then immediately listed it on a resale site.
'Oh, and your dad's birthday isn't for another six months.'
I repeated flatly, "Last month, you blew a million on a crappy vase, claimed it was for your dad's birthday, and then immediately listed it on a resale site. And your dad's birthday is still half a year away, right?"
System: [S-tier emotional critical hit. Reward: 100 thousand dollars.]
Vincent's face went pitch black. He was totally in the dark about this.
Everyone's attention shifted to Zara, the girl who'd been keeping her head down the whole time. She looked frail and pale, like a houseplant left in the dark.
Right then, she slowly raised her head, and for the first time, a faint spark flickered in her eyes, eyes that had always seemed dull and lifeless. She stared straight at me.
