Chapter 3
Whispers erupted around us.
[Oh my god. It's really Xander.]
[Isn't Mr. Garrison supposed to be the ultimate ice prince? Did you guys hear what he just said? Honey? And his voice was dripping with sweetness. Yvette actually got together with Mr. Garrison.]
[Yvette, you're awesome.]
I gave Yvette a cold stare.
She shot me a glare, but her voice was downright pathetic. "Xander, my partner for this event, said I'm not really a Garrison, and that I'm just an actress, not good enough for you."
"What?" Xander snapped.
I could hear the fury in Xander's voice.
Xander always played it cool. He was never in a rush about anything. It looked like he really had feelings for Yvette.
I narrowed my eyes. Alright then, I would show him her true colors.
Yvette suddenly burst into tears. "And that's not even the worst part. She got hit with some dirty rumors, and when I spoke up for her, she said I was just putting on an act."
The comments section exploded.
[Yes, I was there. I can vouch for Yvette.]
[I thought she was pretty at first, but turns out she's just a bitch.]
Yvette's sobs grew even more heartbreaking.
The host rushed over to help her down. "Let's pause the livestream for a moment. Yvette's really worked up."
The livestream abruptly ended. I headed backstage to take a break.
But as soon as I got there, I saw Yvette crying her heart out, her shoulders shaking with sobs. "Xander, am I really not good enough for you? Am I really that awful?"
Xander felt his heart turn to mush hearing that. "Of course not. Don't pay attention to that bitch. I swear, you're the only one I'll ever marry in this life."
My eye twitched as I cleared my throat. "I suggest you drop the crocodile tears and the innocent act. As long as I'm around, you'll never set foot in the Garrison family."
Yvette pressed her hand over the mic. So Xander couldn't hear what I said.
Her eyes were red as she stared at me and said, "Diana, why are you saying stuff like that?
"Even if you and Mr. Garrison have some secret thing going on, this is between Xander and me. You're not even his wife, so what right do you have to meddle?"
I raised an eyebrow. "Oh, you want the truth? Fine, I will tell you. I really am Mr. Garrison's wife, and Xander's mom."
She was stunned for a moment. Then, she suddenly smirked, "Well, Diana, you said it yourself."
I froze and watched as she slowly raised another phone. The livestream that was supposed to be cut off was still live on her other phone.
The comments were blowing up.
[Holy crap, she just admitted it. She really slept with Mr. Garrison.]
[Wow, shameless much? I actually thought she had some charm at first, but forget it. Even the girls selling themselves these days know how to fake it.]
[She's just a bitch Mr. Garrison messes around with. Does she really think she's Mrs. Garrison? What a joke.]
[I've never seen anyone so bold about sleeping her way up. Let the real Mrs. Garrison come out and teach her a lesson, then she'll know her place.]
Yvette was seriously scheming.
Xander's confused voice came on the line.
Yvette quickly responded, "It's nothing, Xander, but that woman is messing with me again. Baby, what should I do?"
Xander's voice shook slightly. "Don't be scared. I'm dropping everything and coming to you right now. Send me your location, baby."
I got goosebumps all over, but the chat was totally shipping them and going crazy.
[Listen up. Mr. Garrison's voice is full of concern. Oh my, aren't heirs to those top companies supposed to be aloof?]
[Yvette's got Mr. Garrison totally hooked.]
I took a deep breath and narrowed my eyes.
"Alright, if that's how you want to play, don't blame me when things get ugly." With that, I turned and walked away.
Xander's presence was exactly what I needed right now.
I needed to ask my son, face-to-face, the heir to the Garrison Group, how he could be so poor at judging people.
