Chapter 3
Emily's gaze at me contained vigilance.
It shocked Eric, Emily, and Belinda that I got proof.
The atmosphere in the house was gloomy.
At lunch break, I met Anne. I gave her the recording and told her what had happened yesterday.
"Well done!" Anne banged the table after she heard me out. "Be firm with people like them. Your mother-in-law is a freak."
"What do we need to do next?" I asked.
Instantly, Anne became serious. "With the evidence collected, we have the upper hand in the division of assets. Now, we should prevent them from hiding money and assets."
"They will try," I said firmly. "Especially Eric. Most transactions of his collection were under the table, and they were off the books."
"I have asked the court to freeze their assets," Anne said. "All their bank accounts and properties have been frozen. It is difficult for them to hide their money and assets."
I let out a sigh of relief.
"One more thing, did Eric harm you physically?" Anne gazed at me.
I shook my head.
"Do you have any proof of his infidelity? Such as photos and videos."
"No, I don't."
Anne nodded. "Never mind. Emily living in your house is the strongest evidence. I will let my assistant get the surveillance footage of your neighborhood."
"Thanks."
"You are welcome." Anne held my hands. "Remember, you are not alone. I am your ally."
Ally, this word warmed my heart.
After work, I went home. A strong perfume attacked my nostrils the moment I walked into the house.
In my silk nightgown, Emily sat on the sofa with a facial mask over her face.
She was taken aback when she noticed me. Then, she rose to her feet and looked a bit embarrassed. "Mrs. Johnson, I... I didn't bring my nightgown with me, so I borrowed yours."
I looked at my favorite nightgown she was wearing. It was a birthday gift I had bought for myself the previous year. "Take it off," I said.
Emily's face went pale.
"Eric, come out here." I shifted my gaze away from Emily and shouted toward the study.
Eric walked out of the study. His gaze shifted between Emily and me, and his eyebrows were knitted soon. "Judy, it is just a nightgown. Why do you make a fuss about it?"
"I have every reason to." I looked at him. "I am a neat freak. I don't like others to touch my stuff, especially the other woman."
Emily felt insulted. Her eyes turned red, and her tears began to drop.
"I am sorry, Mrs. Johnson. I didn't know that. I will go get changed right away." Tearful, she turned around and went upstairs.
Eric glared at me and then followed Emily upstarts with worry.
I looked at their backs, took out my phone, and sent Anne a message, [They are living together.]
Anne soon sent me her reply, [Great. One more piece of evidence.]
Emily began to assume the role of the lady of the house.
She got up early to prepare breakfast, ironed Eric's clothes, and took care for Belinda.
Belinda kept praising Emily. More than once, she said right in front of me, "Emily is an ideal wife."
I listened and said nothing.
On Saturday, I didn't go to work.
Emily was busy in the kitchen while Belinda gave instructions in the living room.
"Emily, stew it slowly on the fire. Eric likes soft meat," Belinda said.
"Got it, Belinda," Emily responded.
They ignored me who was reading on the sofa.
After a while, Emily brought over a plate of fruit.
"Mrs. Johnson, would you like some fruit?" She held the plate of fruit right in front of me.
I ignored her and casually turned over a leaf in the book.
Her hands awkwardly froze in the air.
Belinda was irritated. "Judy, what's wrong with you? Emily kindly offered you some fruit. Are you deaf?"
I closed my book, raised my head, and looked at Belinda. "Legally speaking, I am still the lady of the house, so don't yell at me under this roof."
Then, I turned my gaze to Emily. "I want you not to touch my stuff, including my clothes, cosmetics, and husband."
In an instant, Emily's face turned pale.
Fuming with rage, Belinda banged the table. "You... You shrew! Eric divorces you because you are mean."
