Jason and I didn't say a word on the way home. There was just too much to process.

When we got home, Jason said, "Mom, it's all clear now. Michael is Dad and Eleanor's son. Dad thought he'd kept his promise to Eleanor, that he'd made sure Michael had a good life. So he felt like he could finally let go."

"Then why did he say in his letter that he wanted our child to walk in the light?" I asked. "Michael's not even a Bennett, and he never spent a single day raising him."
