The alarm sounded again.

"Gabriel, don't," Luke repeated.

Gabriel glanced at the gate, then at me. "When Luke called six months ago, he told me you'd changed your mind about Cedar Bay. He said my offer had embarrassed you and you wanted me to stop contacting you."

I stared at Luke. "I never said that."

"He asked me to promise I'd respect your decision," Gabriel continued. "I believed it was yours."

"Then why did you message me yesterday?"

"The woman I hired left unexpectedly. I thought enough time had passed for one message. If you'd ignored it, I would've left…
