Chapter 5

The next morning, George drove Grace out to a small seaside town where nobody knew her.

The inn they stayed at had windows that opened right onto the ocean, and the sound of the waves never stopped, day or night.

"This is where I used to come to write," George told her. "You're welcome to hang out here for a while."

She stood by the window, watching the water roll in.

Then, out of the blue, she asked, "George, have you ever hated someone?"

"No," he said finally.

"Why?"

"Because hate wears you out," he replied.…
