Seven days before our wedding, I returned home early. As I slid the key into the lock, I was still wondering what to cook for dinner. My fiancé, Dexter Lowes, loved grilled ribs, so I made a special trip to the supermarket to choose the best ones. I pushed the door open. The living room was dark, but I could hear intimate sounds coming from the bedroom. My footsteps faltered. One step, two steps, three steps. I pushed open the bedroom door. The sheets were a mess, and clothes were strewn all over the place. Dexter and my best friend of ten years, Miranda Spencer, were wrapped up in each other. On the bed meant for our wedding night. "Ah!" Miranda screamed, instinctively covering herself with the blanket. But Dexter wasn't even fazed. He slowly leaned back against the headboard, and grabbed a cigarette from the nightstand. He lit it, and blew out a cloud of smoke. Then he looked up at me, his tone as mild as if he were saying the weather was nice. "You're back early." I dropped the ribs, and they hit the floor with a dull thud.
