Chapter 3

Sarah woke up with a sore head and a dry mouth. She lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling. Then the memories came back, the noisy bar, the woman with the quiet smile, and the kiss.

Her face turned hot. She sat up fast and covered her mouth with both hands.

Her phone lit up on the table.

{Sylvia}: Good morning. Hope your head isn’t too bad. Mine hurts a little.

A second message followed.

{Sylvia}: About last night… I'm sorry. We can talk when you’re ready, or not talk at all. I’m here either way.
