Chapter 4
Andrew came home early the next morning.
His face was dark as he walked in. "Susan."
I was in the kitchen, cooking porridge. "Hm?"
"What did you tell Crystal last night?"
"The truth."
He strode over to the kitchen doorway. "Did you check my spending records?"
"You set up the secondary card, so the bank texts come right to my phone."
He choked for a second. "Why are you even checking the secondary card transactions?"
"Nothing much. I saved more than thirty screenshots."
His expression shifted. "What are you trying to say?"
I turned off the stove and ladled the porridge into a bowl. "Come on, isn't it obvious?"
He was quiet for a few seconds, then walked over and sat down at the dining table. "Susan, it's not what you think between me and Crystal."
I almost burst out laughing. "Luna Bay Grand Hotel, last Wednesday, 3,333 dollars. And the week before that, you switched hotels. Want me to list them for you?"
"That was business."
"Business in a presidential suite?"
He slammed his hand on the table. "Susan, what do you want from me? Are you signing the contract or not?"
I set my bowl down. "Andrew, let me make this crystal clear. I'm not signing. It's not about the money. Even if you offered me 50 million, I still wouldn't sign."
"You..."
"Those three patents are mine. I registered them before we got married, and it's all spelled out in the prenup. LaneBio Group has nothing to do with them."
He stood up. "If you don't sign, the company's entire product line next year..."
"That's your problem."
"Come on, Susan. You're my wife. The company is yours too."
"Really? Did you remember I was your wife when you handed Crystal that 100 million in dividends?"
He opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
I added, "Did I see even a single dollar from that 100 million you handed to Crystal?"
He looked away. "That was a company bonus, it went through company procedures..."
"Don't give me that company procedure nonsense." I shot back, standing up. "You're the major shareholder. Every big expense at LaneBio Group needs your signature."
He fell silent.
I grabbed my bag. "Come find me when you finally get it."
"Where are you going?"
"The lab."
"What lab? You have quit."
I opened the door and shot back. "Who said I was talking about your company's lab?"
The door closed behind him.
By the time he rushed out, the elevator doors had already closed.
