Chapter 1
The night I married Alex Ford, who was in a vegetative state, instead of the fake heiress, I had a sex dream.
In my dream, I draped my lace lingerie on that man's body, clung to his eight-pack abs, and had a good time with him all night long.
I was so worn out, I slept for three days and three nights straight.
When I woke up, I was sprawled all over Alex like an octopus, drooling all over him.
I thought it was just a sex dream, but three days later, I started getting morning sickness, and by ten days, my belly was already bulging.
Staring at the two bright red lines on the pregnancy test, I was totally stunned.
Did I really get pregnant from a dream?
Ten months later, I was clutching my stomach in agony and dashed to the bathroom. Then I gave birth... to an egg.
My mind went blank.
I didn't dare open my eyes, praying it was all just a hallucination.
But when I reached for my belly that used to be huge, it was gone.
With a trembling hand, I reached out and touched the egg in front of me. It was pure white and softly glowing.
It seemed genuinely happy, eagerly nuzzling against my hand like a little kid begging for cuddles.
I was desperate.
I gave birth, but what came out wasn't a baby. It was an egg.
For no reason at all, I had a sex dream and ended up making out with some mysterious stranger.
Next thing I knew, I was pregnant. And now, somehow, I laid an egg.
I was trembling from head to toe, my legs weak and wobbly.
If anyone ever found out, would they treat me like a monster and haul me off to some lab for research?
The maid knocked on the door, worried I'd been in there forever. Freaked out, I snatched a towel, wrapped the egg up, and hid it behind my back.
"Ma'am, what happened to your belly?" she asked.
"Uh... I finally kicked my constipation. Everything's out now. Yep, all gone." I tripped over my words, eager to get her out. "Oh, right, I'm starving. Can you grab me something to eat?"
The maid stared at my belly for ages, half-believing, half-doubting. She muttered, "What kind of meds are that powerful? Ten months of constipation, gone just like that..."
Once she was finally gone, I pressed a hand to my chest and let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness I didn't expose my secret.
Ever since I married in, my mother-in-law, Laura, had moved to the mansion. Now, the only people left in this villa were my comatose husband lying in bed like a corpse, the butler, some security guards, and a handful of maids.
After I found out I was pregnant, I was too scared to step outside or even go to the hospital. I claimed I had constipation, which explained my growing belly, and I managed to fool the maids at home.
I tried everything—doing aerobics, jogging all over the villa, even bouncing up and down the stairs—but that baby was glued to my belly like it was welded on.
Every single day, I swore that if I ever found out who got me pregnant, I'd cut him up myself.
I hid all the baby clothes and supplies I'd secretly bought online.
I stuffed that damn egg at the very bottom of my closet, buried it under a mountain of out-of-season clothes, and prayed it was just my imagination.
But as soon as I stepped into Alex's bedroom, there it was—the glowing white egg, sitting upright and proper on the custom-made gray-black sheets, right next to Alex.
I nearly had a heart attack on the spot.
I hurriedly snatched up the egg, poked its shell with my finger, and scolded it sternly, "You little rascal. I cheated on Alex in a dream and had you. Can you please keep a low profile?"
I couldn't tell if it was just my imagination, but the egg seemed a bit aggrieved.
Alex looked harmless enough, lying there asleep, but I'd heard all the stories. Before the accident left him comatose, he was the most powerful heir in the city's elite circles. He was deadly decisive and absolutely untouchable.
If he ever woke up and realized I'd cheated on him and somehow ended up laying an egg, he'd probably kill me on the spot.
No way. For the sake of my own life, I had to deal with this egg before it ruined me.
I bundled the egg up in layer after layer of clothes, making sure it was wrapped tighter than a secret.
Then, under the cover of darkness, I snuck out the villa window, drove dozens of miles out to the countryside, and finally stashed it in a chicken coop.
Pointing at the clucking hens, I told the egg, "Look, we're not even the same species. Our paths are totally different. You can't stick with me.
"When the hen hatches you, it'll be your mom, okay?"
With that, I bolted back to my car, slammed the door, fired up the engine, and floored it.
