Chapter 3
Everyone looked at each other, terrified.
One of the girls trailing behind Emily, her voice shaking, whispered, "E-Emily, I saw an interview with Mr. Grant in a finance magazine once. Even though only half his face was shown, those eyes and jawline look just like him! What if the guy under the mask really is..."
Another girl was about to burst into tears. "Oh no, oh no, if we pissed off Mr. Grant, we're dead meat—we won't even see the sunrise tomorrow!"
"Bullshit!" Emily snapped, shutting her roommate right up.
A flash of panic flickered in her eyes, but she tried to play it cool with a mocking laugh. "Mr. Grant showing up at some random night market? As if! Fine, since you all wanna doubt me, I'll just expose this faker myself!"
She lunged forward and ripped the wolf mask off Lucas' face.
Instantly, everyone drew in sharp breath.
That strikingly handsome face—unmistakable and often seen on the covers of finance magazines—was now completely revealed under the lights.
"Oh my god... it really is Mr. Grant!"
"He's exactly the same as in the magazines!"
"I'm just curious, why is Mr. Grant with this girl instead of Emily?"
The Falcon Security Team, who had been strutting around just moments ago, now looked like they'd seen a ghost.
Emily stared at his face, her eyes going wide in shock, her complexion shifting from pale to green. She shrieked, "No! That's impossible! He must've had plastic surgery to look just like Mr. Grant—yeah, that's gotta be it!"
I shot her a cold look as she desperately tried to keep up the act. "Plastic surgery? Where's your proof? You just won't give up until you hit a dead end, huh? Honestly, I'm dying to know—who exactly is this 'Mr. Grant' you keep talking about?"
Just then, Emily's phone lit up with a video call—her screen flashed with the contact name: [My Darling Fiancé]
She grabbed her phone like it was a lifeline, answering with a whiny, aggrieved tone, "Mr. Grant! Look at this crazy plastic surgery freak—he's actually out here pretending to be you, strutting around like he owns the place! Sure, he's got the build down, but that fake face is just gross!"
Let me see who dared to impersonate Lucas.
I followed Emily's gaze. What I saw next stopped my heart.
On the video call screen was a face that looked just like Lucas—right down to that impatient frown between his brows.
A low, reassuring voice came through the phone. "Babe, who's messing with you?"
Lucas and I shot each other a look—both of us totally floored.
Wait a sec—Lucas never said anything about having a twin brother!
After hanging up, Emily got even bolder, looking Lucas up and down with a mix of scorn and greedy satisfaction. "Hmph, you damn wannabe! Gotta admit, that face is almost good enough to fool me. But..."
Her eyes roamed over Lucas, lingering with a predatory smirk. "Since you nailed the body, too, I guess I'll play with this knockoff tonight—let's see if you taste as good as the real deal."
Lucas' response was glacial, his eyes promising violence.
"I don't care who that guy on the phone is—some illegitimate brat the Grant family tossed out. But I, Lucas Grant, am the one and only rightful heir to Grant Holdings," he said, his tone icy.
Emily swaggered up and kicked Lucas right in the chest, her attitude screaming arrogance.
"LOL, are you for real? It's the 21st century, and you're still obsessed with family pedigree?"
The crowd started murmuring, and one person, voice trembling with fear, said, "Emily, he really doesn't look like he's bluffing. What if you're the one who's mistaken? Maybe this guy is actually your real fiancé..."
Emily barked back, her anger flaring as she glared at them.
"I'm the Carter family's one true heiress—if I say he's a fake, then he's a fake! What, you think I wouldn't recognize my own fiancé?" she retorted, full of confidence.
The person immediately clammed up, too terrified to say another word.
"Training you like a dog is the most fun. If you won't obey me, I'll just keep breaking you until you do," Emily taunted, her voice full of cruel delight.
Emily was really asking for it now—she hopped onto a leisure cart, yanked the leash, and made Lucas drag her through the market like her own personal pet.
"Faster! And don't just pull the cart—shout for everyone to hear that you're a fake Mr. Grant and deserve to be punished! I want everyone online to see just how pathetic you really are!"
I gritted my teeth, my heart twisting for Lucas—it hurt just watching him like this.
Lucas had never endured such humiliation.
A cold smile played on my lips. If this incident hit the headlines, Lucas' grandfather would surely be furious. After all, Lucas was the long-awaited legitimate grandson!
