Chapter 4

"Paige, shut up."

Owen's voice was sharp enough that Hannah looked over from the kitchen counter. She set down the menu we'd been reading and left me to the call.

"Nora, don't hang up."

I sat at the small table by Hannah's window.

"Did you promise her that?"

"We talked about a lot of things while I was ill. I wasn't thinking clearly."

"Did you tell her you'd divorce me?"

"Yes."

Paige said something I couldn't make out. Owen told her to leave him alone, and a door closed. The music stopped.

"When?"

"Nora, please."

"When did you tell her?"
