Chapter 4

Graham walked into the penthouse shortly after five in the morning. He had just left Vanessa resting in one of the lower suites after her scare.

He loosened his tie, exhausted but already rehearsing the apology he owed his wife. He fully expected to find Claire asleep in their bed.

He planned to slip in beside her, hold her, and explain why he had rushed out of their vow renewal. He assumed she would accept his explanation. She always listened.

The penthouse was unnaturally quiet. He walked into the master bedroom, keeping his footsteps light. The bed was perfectly made.
