“How far along are you?”

I pushed the vase inward slightly so it wouldn't get knocked over.

“Eighteen weeks,” Amy said.

I glanced at the appointment note on the fridge. My baby was seven weeks behind hers.

“When did Mark find out?”

“I told him as soon as the test came back positive.”

Back then, he was still reminding me to take my prenatal vitamins every day.

I pulled out a chair and sat down. To think that while I was happily preparing to become a mother, he already knew another woman was carrying his child.

“Jo?” Amy called out.
