I froze, my eyes stinging as I fought back tears.

Daniel looked even more anxious, and spoke in a small, shaky voice.

"I know I'm not the brightest.

"But I can learn to do laundry, cook, and I can work to make money.

"I can learn anything. Can you not leave me?"

As he spoke, he pressed the bank card into my hand.

He said, "Here, you take it. I can work and make money myself. I won't need to use it.
