The next afternoon, after the court papers had been served, Leonard showed up outside my new office.

I hadn't officially started yet. I was only there to submit some additional paperwork.

He stood at the entrance to the lobby, his suit jacket draped over one arm, as if he had rushed over in the middle of a meeting.
