Chapter 2
I'd seen how Jason loves someone for real.
It was all after I died.
He had no clue my soul was stuck with him, or that I was there, watching everything unfold after my death.
At first, he was totally broken, but then he got fixated—hoarding all my stuff, chasing after girls who looked just like me.
There were plenty of girls who looked like me.
But Claire was the least like me of them all.
She was the one who stuck around Jason the longest and the one he loved the most.
It was three years after I died.
That was when Jason finally came to his senses and fell head over heels for Claire.
There was no room for anyone else in their tangled mess of love and hate. The whole old flame thing was just something they used to make each other jealous and stir up drama.
When Mark found out Jason had actually caught real feelings for another girl, he totally lost it and swung at Jason.
Mark glared at him, voice shaking with anger.
"Are you really doing right by Evelyn?"
Jason and Claire's wedding was thrown into chaos by a sudden turn of events.
And my soul was forced to linger around them, unable to leave.
I wanted to break up the fight, but I couldn't touch anything.
I wanted them to say, "Stop fighting. Jason didn't really owe me anything."
The only thing Jason ever felt he owed me was the year he got kidnapped and I took a knife for him.
The wound cut deep, leaving a long scar down my back.
Later, when I was diagnosed with a terminal illness and lying on my deathbed, Jason lost his mind, trying every possible way to save me.
He sat by my bedside, eyes swollen from crying, and swore to me that I was the only one he'd ever love.
And that he'd marry no one but me.
I'd never seen him cry like that.
But promises were never truly reliable. They were not meant to be taken seriously.
I pulled myself back to reality, leaving those memories behind.
The two guys brawling on stage were finally pulled apart by the crowd.
Jason's fist ended up landing right next to Mark's ear.
His eyes were cold and menacing as he gave a low warning.
"Don't go crazy," Jason said.
Back in my last life, after Mark crashed Jason's wedding, Jason got his revenge. Mark lost everything and ended his life.
Anyway, Mark did it all for me. There was no way I could just sit back and watch it happen.
I limped over and turned to Claire, who looked pale, explaining earnestly.
"Seriously, there's nothing going on between me and Jason."
Let's not talk about the storyline. Whatever was between us ended ages ago.
Mark stood up, gave Jason a cold glare, then helped me limp out of there, step by step.
In the end, before I left, I still took off the bracelet.
The warmth from my skin lingered on it, but out in the cold air, it slowly turned icy.
After thinking it over for a second, I dropped it into the trash.
I never let on about the bracelet while Claire was around.
Jason would never pass on something I'd worn to Claire.
Whenever he gave her a gift, it was always the best of the best.
It'd never be something as plain and breakable as this little bracelet.
Jason's stare was so intense behind me. It felt like he could drill holes right through my bones.
I turned and caught him fixated on my empty wrist, unable to tear his eyes away.
He looked absolutely wrecked.
