Oliver noticed the change in me. We stood there in an awkward silence.

When he spoke again, his voice had softened, losing some of its edge. "Vince, what are you thinking? He's broke. There's nothing in it for you if you stay with him."

I had heard those words from plenty of people.

But Oliver was the last person who had the right to say them.

Still, I answered honestly, "I'm with him because I love him. Is that a problem for you?"
