Ethan pressed the remote a third time before he finally understood that the gate was not going to open.

He climbed out of the truck and marched toward me.

“Open the gate, Claire.”

“No.”

Behind him, Megan lowered her window. Caleb was asleep in the back seat.

“This isn’t funny,” Ethan said. “They need somewhere to stay.”

“They’re not staying here.”

His eyes dropped to the new key in my hand.

“What did you do?”

“I disabled your access. The theater is closed for inspection.”

“What inspection?”
