Rowan's POV

By the time Rowan got back to the hospital, the recovery room was empty.

He had only been gone an hour or two. He had his explanation ready: Brielle was hyperventilating, and he had to talk her down. Audrey would be angry, but she would understand. She always did.

He walked into Room 214.

The bed was stripped. The plastic bassinet was gone.

"My wife," he said to the nurse at the station. "Audrey Vale. And our daughter..."

"They were discharged this morning," the nurse said, not meeting his eyes. "She asked us to give you this."
