Chapter 1
I was Chiara Sullivan, the world's top miracle doctor known as Ghost Hand.
To repay a debt of gratitude, I married Jackson Lewis, a man in a coma.
Three years later, he woke up.
But his first move was to get his true love, Yolanda Lynch, pregnant and kick me out with nothing.
His mother, Leila, slammed the divorce agreement in my face. "You barren woman, get out. Don't stand in the way of us having a grandson."
I signed and said calmly, "Don't come begging me later. Without me, his legs will fail in three days."
Leila laughed. "Beg you? You should beg us. Jackson's a billionaire now."
Right after we left the courthouse, Jackson grabbed his legs in pain, collapsed, and started foaming at the mouth.
Yolanda screamed in terror.
Lucas White, the hospital director, rushed over.
Leila grabbed him. "Save my son. We have money."
Lucas glanced at Jackson and shook his head. "Only Ghost Hand can fix this."
Leila smirked, "Throw money at her, then."
As I walked away, Lucas bowed deeply to me. "Ms. Sullivan, will you take this case?"
A deadly silence fell over the place.
I took off my sunglasses and watched the Lewis family grovel at my feet, pleading.
I grinned, "Want him healed? Okay. There's one special treatment. The ingredient I use comes from the living tissue of an unborn fetus. Care to provide it, Yolanda?"

A divorce agreement was thrown right in my face.
The sharp edge of the paper grazed my cheek, making it smart with pain.
Leila jabbed her finger at me. "Chiara, barren woman, sign the papers and get out. Don't stand in the way of us having a grandson."
Jackson stood silently in front of me.
Three years ago, a car accident left him in a coma. I married him to repay his grandpa's kindness.
I watched over him for three long years.
Day after day, I cleaned his body, massaged his muscles, and kept him alive with my skills.
Three months ago, he woke up.
Three months later, he brought Yolanda, the true love he'd been hiding outside, home.
Her belly was slightly swollen, a victor's smile on her face.
Jackson looked at me, his eyes cold. "Chiara, sign it.
"I've always loved Yolanda, and she's pregnant with my baby.
"The last three years? Consider it us hiring you as a caretaker. The payment will be sent to you. We're even now."
We were even?
I watched over him for more than a thousand days and nights.
And all I got in return was being called nothing more than a "caregiver."
I picked up the pen and signed my name at the bottom of the agreement.
My handwriting was steady as ever.
Then I pushed the agreement back. "Don't come begging me to return."
My gaze dropped to Jackson's legs. "After the accident, his nerves were wrecked. It was I who kept them working.
"Without me, his legs will be useless in three days."
Leila burst out laughing, like I'd told the biggest joke ever. "Beg you? Are you dreaming or what?
"Jackson is a billionaire. Who do you think you are?
"You're just a worthless piece of trash we threw out, and you dare threaten us?"
Yolanda clung to Jackson, her voice trembling. "Jackson, I'm scared. Chiara's stare is terrifying."
Jackson pulled her closer, glaring at me with pure disgust. "Get out."
Like that, my three-year marriage was over for good.
I rolled my suitcase out, never once looking back.
The moment I stepped out the front door, the sunlight hit me hard.
I squinted against the glare.
Finally, I was free.
*****
I called a cab and headed to the courthouse. Jackson and Yolanda followed behind in their car.
They kept a close eye on me, afraid I'd bolt.
By the time I arrived, Leila and the others were already there.
The whole Lewis family showed up, desperate to kick me out of their lives.
The judge finalized the divorce with a quick tap of the gavel.
A few weeks later, the official decree would arrive in the mail.
With everything down, Jackson didn't even spare me a glance before turning and walking away.
Yolanda clung to his arm, lifted her chin at me with a smug smile.
Leila spat on the ground. "Good riddance, you jinx. Glad you're gone."
I narrowed my eyes and turned away coldly.
Suddenly, a piercing scream echoed from behind me.
That was Jackson's voice.
I stopped in my tracks, but didn't turn around.
"Jackson, what's wrong?" Leila yelled, her voice drowned out by Yolanda's panicked screaming.
I slowly turned around.
Jackson was writhing on the ground, his body convulsing violently, his legs twisted at a bizarre angle.
White foam bubbled out of his mouth, his eyes rolled back, and his face turned purple.
"Help! Somebody call an ambulance," Leila shouted.
She dropped to her knees beside Jackson, panicked and helpless.
Yolanda only stood there, shrieking in terror.
A crowd quickly gathered around, pointing and murmuring.
I stood outside the circle, watching coldly.
I told them Jackson's legs would fail in three days.
Never thought he couldn't even make it three hours.
