He stared at the recorder in my hand, his face darkening. "Are you recording this?"

"Yeah." I nodded. "Go on, I'm listening."

Anna noticed, too, and for a moment, she visibly panicked. She quickly softened her voice. "Charlotte, don't be like this. Richard's worried. He didn't mean it that way."

I ignored Anna completely and kept my eyes fixed on Richard. "Go on. Weren't you talking so smoothly a second ago?"
