Chapter 3
"Since you love slashing other people's faces so much, let's see how it feels when it's your turn." Kendrick sneered.
With that, he grabbed a shard of glass from the floor and slashed a deep line just below Samantha's ear.
The sharp glass cut through her skin, but that pain wasn't even a fraction of the torment burning in her heart.
"Jenny just got back and doesn't have anywhere to stay. You'll give up your room to her as a way to make up for what you've done," Kendrick added.
He had the servants toss all of Samantha's stuff out of the room.
But right now, Samantha thought, none of it mattered anymore.
She was just trying to hold herself together, picking up her things to leave, when a servant suddenly burst into the room.
"Bad news. Mr. Hinton collapsed at the hospital," one of the servants shouted. "He's in critical condition."
"Get the car ready. We're heading to the hospital. Now," Kendrick said urgently.
Thinking of all the times Thomas had cared for her as his daughter-in-law, Samantha felt a pang in her heart, but she still followed along.
When the car door opened, Samantha automatically went for the front passenger seat, only for Kendrick to roughly pull her out.
"That seat's for Jenny," Kendrick said coldly. "She gets carsick if she smells anyone else in the car. Go squeeze in the back with the others."
Kendrick pointed at the bodyguard car behind them, clearly telling Samantha to cram in with a bunch of sweaty, burly men.
'But I'm his wife, the one who should be sitting up front,' Samantha thought bitterly.
Before Samantha could even say anything, the car door slammed shut right in her face.
When they got to the hospital, Thomas was really not doing well, just like they'd feared.
"Mr. Hinton's condition is very serious. He needs a lot of blood, but our blood bank is almost empty," the doctor said, wiping the sweat off his forehead.
By some twist of fate, both Samantha and Jenny had the right blood type for Thomas Hinton.
"I'll do it. Take my blood," Samantha volunteered immediately.
No matter if it was because she was his daughter-in-law, or because Thomas had cared for her, Samantha didn't hesitate to offer her blood.
But Jenny looked nothing but willing. "Kenny, I'm scared of the pain," she whimpered, her voice trembling.
Jenny continued, "You know I've always been terrified of needles. I don't want any needles."
Kendrick immediately pulled her into his arms, coaxing her softly. "Don't worry, I promise I won't let you get hurt at all."
"Just use Samantha for the transfusion. She's healthier than Jenny anyway." Kendrick instructed the doctor.
"But Mr. Hinton, we can only take up to 400cc from one person. Any more than that could seriously harm her," the doctor warned.
Kendrick wasn't even listening. He was too busy comforting Jenny in his arms.
With Thomas's life on the line, Samantha didn't care about anything else. She just let the doctor get started.
By the time Kendrick finally finished comforting Jenny, Samantha had already staggered out of the transfusion room, barely able to stand, her face ghostly pale as she clutched her arm.
Samantha was shivering from the blood loss, her whole body cold, and her lips were white as paper.
"Why do you look so pale?" Kendrick frowned at Samantha.
Seeing her holding the spot where the needle had been, Kendrick said softly, "I saw what you did for us today. Didn't you have your eye on a bag recently? I'll make sure you get it tomorrow."
Samantha just stayed quiet.
But Jenny, standing off to the side, puffed out her cheeks. "Kenny, that's so unfair! Why does Samantha get a bag and I don't? What about me?"
"Alright, I'll get you ten of your favorite bags, how's that?" Kendrick replied with a grin, reaching out and affectionately pinched her nose.
Samantha mocked herself inwardly with a bitter smile, 'I've almost bled myself dry just to get a token compensation from Kendrick, while Jenny only has to act cute and he'll give up everything for her.
'But once upon a time, Kendrick promised he'd love me forever.'
Samantha closed her eyes in pain, and when she opened them again, she felt utterly hollow inside.
